  1. #1 Best Colleges in AmericaYale UniversityNew Haven, CT·4 Year·Rating 4.04 out of 5 1,064 reviewsSenior: Aside from the obvious (great academics and professors), there are just so many great resources and opportunities available at Yale. Unfortunately, you don't get any guidance or help accessing them, which makes the already wide gap for first-gen and low-income students even wider despite generous need-based financial aid packages. Also, the university administration is extremely out of touch with the students, and the YPD abuses their power on unparalleled levels both on campus and in the city. The students at Yale are not very socioeconomically diverse (as one would expect) but for the most part very kind despite the prevailing culture of "maximizing how much work you have to do." The food is better than any other college food I've tasted. Unfortunately, most dorms don't have A/C. The surrounding city of New Haven is wonderful, especially once you've exited the radius where shops upcharge you. Student activism continues to make Yale a better place, e.g., improving mental healthcare.... My professors have always been available and the opportunity to apply my studies and skills to research projects was great. My fellow student are good people and everyone in have met has some kind of truly unique capability. I have learned that being in the top 99% of GPA and test scores is great, but I routinely meet people in the top 99.5% and they seem many times smarter than me. Being around people like this keep me humble and motived. I like party scene, as I can alway find something fun to do whenever time allows. I also like that most of my colleagues are not trying to 'look' smart...and anyone who would try this would soon find that someone right next to them is many time more capable. I really like this place.... I have also been fortunate to form meaningful connections with talented peers and professors who inspire me daily to work hard and pursue my goals and dreams, that is what I truly value the most about attending Harvard. The campus is beautiful and relatively safe. The staff is friendly, intellectual, and encourages creative thinking. In regard to academic programs, the University of Pennsylvania has world-renowned options, particularly in nursing and business (the Wharton school). One unique aspect of the University of Pennsylvania is its commitment to diverse populations and perspectives. Our freshman class this year has students from over 100 countries, bringing a variety of cultures and languages to the community at Penn. The University of Pennsylvania has a very selective admissions process but once accepted, the university is very welcoming and cares about the wellness of its students. The university has a very political atmosphere and can tend to relate narrow viewpoints related to political issues. The school encourages a system of collaborative learning amongst students both in and out of class. Additionally, the professors are accommodating when it comes to helping students who are having trouble on the class' subject. While I can not comment on the party or sports scene at Hopkins, due to the fact I am not integrated into either, campus life is quite enjoyable. It is as though there is some event going on every day at campus from book clubs to parties. The extracurricular experience at Hopkins has also been enjoyable. There is a strong variety of clubs and organizations to enjoy from cultural associations to fire dancing. 14. #15 Best Colleges in AmericaRice UniversityHouston, TX·4 Year·Rating 4.09 out of 5 1,129 reviewsSophom*ore: Rice University is a great school for all-rounders—people who have more than one passion in life and want to explore all these passions together. They emphasize this even in the more intensive majors. They also focus on creating a socially healthy atmosphere for students by allowing student leaders to have a say in campus policies, as well as providing, funding, and promoting social events on campus. They truly cultivate a close-knit community from the start with orientation week and your "o-week" family, whom you will meet with weekly during your first year. There are a lot of peer-led activities and peer leadership opportunities so students can receive help and perspectives from their peers on matters that affect them. Overall all I can say is that if you want a school that challenges you in all facets of your life while also looking after and prioritizing your mental, social, and physical well being that Rice is the best university to meet all those needs.... 15. #16 Best Colleges in AmericaUniversity of California - Los AngelesLos Angeles, CA·4 Year·Rating 3.98 out of 5 5,641 reviewsSenior: Hosting over 1,200 clubs and student organizations, UCLA has something for everyone. This is a school where it is easy to find the connections to experience new things, as well as get involved on campus (something I highly recommend). As a student who lived on campus for two years, I can confidently say that the UCLA dining halls is some of the best college dining food you will ever find, and there are plenty of health options. Academics are rigorous, but they will prepare you well for any endeavors you might have after undergrad. My complaints about this school are that you are completely on your own to figure out course scheduling, and don't receive much help from counselors. Classes are often hard to get into, which can be extremely frustrating. Lastly, academic or research-focused club participation often requires an application and even an interview, making this school highly competitive for literally everything!... Academically, it was tough, particularly for STEM majors. Many of the intro science courses were difficult and needed to be graded on a curve (we called them "weed-out" classes because they weeded out pre-med students who weren't serious about their grades). Moving from the bustling, sunny streets of Dubai to the colder, more laid-back vibe of Pittsburgh was a big adjustment. I remember my first snowfall—it was magical but also a stark reminder that I needed better winter gear! Academically, juggling Economics and Statistics with Computer Science is demanding. In my first semester, I pulled my first all-nighter for a CS assignment. It was tough, but the sense of accomplishment was incredible. My professors are supportive, and I've found study groups to be invaluable. Socially, I've connected with international student groups and even joined the Middle Eastern Student Association. I originally applied to see if I could get in, and to my surprise, I did. My experience at USC has been incredible! The university welcomes new students, and the sense of community has been my favorite part. Whenever I wear USC gear, people often ask if I attend, if I'm a fan, and some even cheer, "Fight on!" I’ve cherished every moment on campus, and I still find it hard to believe that I have the privilege of being a student here. Although I didn't complete my undergraduate degree at USC, my experience has been overwhelmingly positive, from orientation to spending time with my cohort and attending football games. I'm incredibly proud to be a Trojan, and I hope to one day work for USC. I would only change the connection between the medical campus (HSC) and the main campus (UPC). I think there are a lot of really great people at Emory, however, I do believe there's an issue with how academics and success are viewed among students, which can create a slightly toxic or superficial learning environment. 23. #34 Best Colleges in AmericaNew York UniversityNew York, NY·4 Year·Rating 3.76 out of 5 5,778 reviewsJunior: NYU offers many academic opportunities, and the city is brimming with possibilities for fun and career growth. The support from academic advisors can vary depending on your school within NYU, but Stern, in particular, has outstanding advisors. There’s nothing like having Washington Square Park as your 'campus,' but if you're seeking a traditional college experience with Greek life and a strong sense of community, NYU might not be the best fit. NYU's professors can be incredible—supportive both in and out of the classroom, offering extra resources, and serving as inspirations. However, I've encountered a few who were less than ideal: not as understanding, occasionally rude, intimidating, or with high expectations without clear guidance. Ultimately, your experience at NYU is what you make of it. 25. #38 Best Colleges in AmericaSwarthmore CollegeSwarthmore, PA·4 Year·Rating 3.64 out of 5 433 reviewsAlum: I chose to attend Swarthmore College because they had the best financial aid package which made higher education for a first-gen, low-income student like myself possible. Besides the financial aid, I really enjoyed the small campus community where I developed relationships with my closest friends today as well as met my partner in life. It was at Swarthmore where I realized my dream of becoming a teacher practitioner and scholar which is what I am pursuing post-grad. I am indebted to my professors who were dedicated to scholarship that was aimed at improving educational and livelihood outcomes both on and outside of Swarthmore's campus. 26. #40 Best Colleges in AmericaUniversity of California - IrvineIrvine, CA·4 Year·Rating 3.78 out of 5 4,318 reviewsAlum: The university is known for its strong programs in engineering, computer science, biological sciences, business, and the arts, providing ample research opportunities and access to dedicated faculty who are leaders in their fields. The diverse and inclusive campus community enriches the student experience, supported by numerous cultural clubs, advocacy groups, and resources. However, there are areas that could be improved. The cost and availability of housing in Irvine can be challenging. Parking on campus is also a concern due to high fees and limited spaces, particularly during peak hours. Additionally, popular classes often fill up quickly, making it hard for students to enroll in required courses. Simplifying administrative processes and improving communication between the administration and students would enhance the overall experience. Despite these challenges, UCI remains an excellent environment for academic and personal growth... 27. #41 Best Colleges in AmericaUniversity of Texas - AustinAustin, TX·4 Year·Rating 4 out of 5 6,828 reviewsSophom*ore: My overall experience at UT Austin have been positive. There have been a few classes that I did not enjoy, but those classes are rare as my academic experience has been overall great. The greatest issue I have is with the housing, as I have lived in some unfavorable conditions my first year and would hope to see better housing options and better management in the future. However, I have very little complaints about the student life and the campus and am looking forward to another year!...
