Channel 4 Names Priya Dogra as New CEO: Sky Exec Takes Over UK Broadcaster (2026)

Bold leadership for Channel 4 arrives with Priya Dogra, a high-profile executive from Sky and Warner Bros. Discovery, as she takes the reins as CEO. Dogra will succeed Alex Mahon, who stepped down after eight years, marking a new era for the U.K. broadcaster.

Dogra joined Sky last year as chief advertising, group data, and new revenue officer. Her career at Warner Bros. Discovery spans 14 years, culminating in her role as Europe, Middle East, and Africa president and managing director. In the final round for the post were Jonathan Allan, Channel 4’s chief operating officer and interim CEO, and Emma Lloyd, Netflix’s vice president of partnerships for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Dogra is set to assume the role in March, with Allan continuing as interim CEO until then.

Channel 4 chair Geoff Cooper praised Dogra as an exceptional leader with a strong track record in driving commercial growth, digital transformation, and collaborative partnerships. He highlighted her dedication to Channel 4’s public service remit and her ability to cultivate creative processes, set programming strategies, and build production capabilities.

Cooper also commended Allan’s performance as interim CEO, noting his steady guidance through challenging market conditions and his impact on the broadcaster’s progress in the latter part of the year.

Dogra expressed enthusiasm about joining Channel 4, describing it as a rare institution at the heart of British culture with a clear mission to challenge, reflect, and represent diverse voices through entertainment. She vowed to collaborate with Channel 4’s talented team and industry partners to expand its distinctive programming, accelerate digital ambitions, and deepen audience connections across all platforms.

Earlier this year, Channel 4 signaled a strategic shift toward in-house production and the potential acquisition of production companies with strong commercial potential, signaling a broader evolution of its content model. The 40-year-old broadcaster has traditionally sourced programming from independent producers. The Media Act 2024 further opened doors for Channel 4 to create content in-house.

Channel 4 outlined a twin-track approach to ownership of intellectual property, balancing a phased move into in-house production with the launch of a Creative Investment Fund designed to acquire or build majority stakes in independent producers and content creators with solid commercial potential.

In early 2024, Channel 4 unveiled a five-year plan to transform into a digital-first public-service streamer by 2030. The strategy included reducing headcount to near-2021 levels while ensuring the organization is structure-ready for further digital growth. Additional plans encompassed relocating many roles outside London, targeting 600 non-London positions by the end of 2025, downsizing London staff, and adopting flexible working arrangements with a new central London office. The broadcaster also signaled the closure of smaller linear channels that fail to deliver revenue or public value at scale, including the Box channels in 2024 and similar initiatives as opportunities arise.
