Moonpig's innovative use of AI in card design and personalization has led to a significant boost in sales, according to the company's recent report. The online card service has seen a 6.7% sales increase to £169 million in the six months leading up to October 31st, with strong performance continuing post-report. This success can be attributed to the integration of AI technology, which has revolutionized the way Moonpig designs and personalizes cards, from baby and birthday cards to corporate greetings. The CEO, Nickyl Raithatha, emphasizes that AI is now a key player in the design process, ensuring that each card is relevant and exciting for customers. However, Moonpig maintains a human touch by having an in-house team oversee the AI-generated designs, ensuring they remain unique and tailored to individual needs. The company's strategic use of AI has also improved customer engagement, with about half of purchases now involving AI-led features that add a creative twist to messages. This shift is particularly notable, as only 2% of purchases involved such features two years ago. Moreover, Moonpig's AI chat system is already resolving a third of all queries, and customers consistently rate these interactions higher than those handled by humans. Despite concerns about job displacement, Raithatha assures that AI is enhancing productivity by suggesting 50 or more designs for a person to edit, adapt, or curate, rather than designing just one or two cards in a day. As the CEO steps down, the company is poised for continued growth under the leadership of Catherine Faiers, the new CEO of AutoTrader. Looking ahead, Moonpig remains optimistic about the future, with Raithatha attributing recent trading success to a 'great start to peak trading' over the festive period, despite the uncertainty surrounding the chancellor's budget changes.
