Dreamer Glen, co-owner of Miss Prissy's, shares their frustration. Months have passed since they submitted their site plan, yet they're still in the dark about when National Grid will complete the necessary electrical upgrades. It's a waiting game that's testing their patience and impacting their business.
"The entire building's electrical service needs an upgrade, and that's a job for National Grid," Glen explains. Inside the restaurant, the contrast is evident. The dining area is bright and ready, with a completed bar, finished floors, and freshly painted walls. But step into the back, and it's a different story altogether.
The lights are off, the bathrooms are out of order, and the kitchen, which should be buzzing with activity, is silent. Essential equipment, like fryers and other appliances, sits idle, waiting for the power to be turned on. It's a stark reminder of the challenges they're facing.
The power issue is more than just an inconvenience; it's a roadblock to progress. Without electricity, they can't install their kitchen essentials, security cameras, or even complete the Pepsi lines. And perhaps most critically, they can't apply for their liquor license until the restaurant is fully operational.
The financial impact is significant, as Glen points out: "Kitchen equipment means money. We've essentially been without income for almost three years." But the real concern is the pressure they're under to complete the upgrades to secure a $100,000 hospitality grant from the county.
"We're hoping to start receiving funding by the end of the year, but if the building isn't complete, we risk losing the entire grant," Glen says. It's a daunting prospect, and one that has them seeking an extension from the county.
National Grid, for their part, states that they're awaiting documents and site plans to proceed with the upgrades safely. Jared Paventi, National Grid's strategic communications manager, assures, "We've been working with the business owner since 2024 to connect them to our extensive Downtown Syracuse underground electric network. We're committed to ensuring we have all the necessary documents and plans to connect service safely."
Miss Prissy's is determined to resolve these electrical issues soon, eager to serve the community from their new location. But for now, the timeline remains uncertain, leaving them in a state of hopeful anticipation.
