SNL's Weekend Update Calls Out 'Psycho' Trump for Taking Peace Prize (2026)

Imagine accepting a Nobel Peace Prize that wasn't even yours! That's precisely what 'Saturday Night Live's' Weekend Update skewered Donald Trump for, alongside his controversial foreign policy decisions. But here's where it gets controversial... Was this just a harmless joke, or does it highlight a deeper issue about Trump's approach to international relations?

The 'Weekend Update' segment on SNL didn't hold back, blasting Trump for accepting a Nobel Peace Prize medal from Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Machado. Machado, seeking Trump's support to potentially succeed President Nicolas Maduro after his capture by U.S. forces, reportedly gifted him the medal. Trump, who often boasts about ending multiple wars, had actively lobbied for the actual Nobel Peace Prize. Failing that, he supposedly settled for a hastily created "FIFA Peace Prize" courtesy of his friend Gianni Infantino, as reported by Jon Stewart. And this is the part most people miss... the underlying power dynamics at play. Was Machado's gift a genuine gesture of goodwill, or a calculated move to gain favor with a powerful figure?

Co-anchor Michael Che didn't mince words, questioning, "What kind of psycho would actually accept someone else’s Nobel Peace Prize? She just won it!" He then drew a rather… colorful analogy, comparing it to taking advantage of someone's hospitality in the most extreme way. Is that comparison too harsh, or does it accurately reflect the perceived audacity of the situation?

To add historical context, Che pointed out that Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels also accepted another's medal. This comparison is pretty strong, and some might find it offensive. But it definitely gets the point across.

Che then hinted at Machado's possible motives for gifting the medal, joking, "If that bribe actually worked, I bet Trump’s about to get a whole bunch of Grammys," while a photo of imprisoned music mogul Diddy appeared on screen. Ouch!

Colin Jost also chimed in, criticizing Trump's foreign policy, citing the capture of Maduro in Caracas, allegedly motivated by the country's vast oil reserves. Trump has also reportedly considered military action in Iran and even threatened to invade Greenland. Remember when that was a thing?

“He promised us ‘America First,’ yet it’s only our one-year anniversary and he’s already opening up our relationship to other countries,” Jost quipped. "This week, Trump declared himself the ‘acting president of Venezuela.’ By next week he’ll be the ‘interim Ayatollah of Iran’, and then onto his ultimate goal: ‘head reindeer of Greenland.’" The absurdity is definitely dialed up to eleven here!

Jost continued, “In fact, a congressman has introduced a bill to make Greenland the 51st state. Meanwhile, Puerto Rico’s like, ‘Wow, okay?!'” This highlights the ongoing debate about Puerto Rico's status and whether it should become a state.

So, what do you think? Was SNL's criticism fair game? Did they go too far with the comparisons and jokes? And what are your thoughts on Trump's foreign policy decisions? Let us know in the comments below!
